Shaheen Applauds Ocean Research Grant to University of New Hampshire

$6,220,000 grant awarded to UNH Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping Joint Hydrographic Center

Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) announced today that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded the University of New Hampshire Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping Joint Hydrographic Center (CCOM/JHC) a $6,220,000 grant to continue the center's work.

"The University of New Hampshire is a world leader in ocean-mapping and hydrography," said Shaheen. "Our ocean floors remain the last largely unexplored area of the Earth's surface, and this grant means the University of New Hampshire will be able to continue its ground-breaking research. And with rising sea levels threatening coastal New Hampshire businesses and homes, it's important now more than ever that their research in this field continue along our Seacoast. I want to congratulate the faculty, staff and students of the Coastal and Ocean Mapping Joint Hydrographic Center, and look forward to seeing the results of the University's research in the coming years."

A member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Shaheen secured federal funding to make this grant possible.
