Shaheen Statement Following Senate Rejection of Legislation to Defund Planned Parenthood

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) made the following comments after the legislation to defund Planned Parenthood failed a procedural vote:

“The goal of those who secretly recorded and released highly-edited videos of Planned Parenthood employees is transparent: to restrict women’s access to reproductive health care,” said Shaheen. “I’m disappointed that some of my colleagues have responded to this latest politically motivated attack with yet another attempt to defund Planned Parenthood. Today, the Senate appropriately rejected this legislation that would deny critical health services to over 12,000 women in New Hampshire. Women across this country depend on Planned Parenthood for well-woman visits, cancer screenings, vaccinations, birth control consultations, breast exams and STD tests.  I will continue to oppose attempts to defund women’s health care services.”
