Senator Shaheen Calls March Toward ACA Repeal Without Replacement "Reckless" and Calls for Bipartisan Effort to Improve the Law

(Washington, DC)—Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after voting against a measure that would begin the process of repealing the Affordable Care Act:

“Healthcare reform has helped 690,000 Granite Staters with access to healthcare coverage,” said Shaheen. “It’s highly reckless to begin the process of repealing this law, especially when there’s no plan to replace it. I’ve successfully worked across the aisle to improve the Affordable Care Act and I would encourage President-elect Trump and Republican leadership in Congress to do likewise, rather than cause unnecessary chaos in the healthcare marketplace.”

In 2015, Senator Shaheen successfully improved the Affordable Care Act to help small businesses by passing bipartisan legislation. The Pace Act remains one of the few successful and non-controversial efforts to change the healthcare reform law.
