Statement by Senator Shaheen Following Reports that the Trump Administration Is Attempting to Withold Tariff Refunds from the American People

**On Monday, Shaheen introduced the Tariff Refund Act to require full refunds of President Trump’s illegal tariffs**

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a senior member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, released the following statement on reports that the Trump Administration is trying to avoid returning the tariff tax revenue it illegally collected from the American people after the Supreme Court ruled President Trump’s tariffs unlawful:

“The Supreme Court rightly ruled that the President’s tariffs were unlawful, soundly rejecting the Administration’s argument and agreeing with the bipartisan brief I led with 36 Senators and 171 House members—yet the Administration is doing all it can to keep the money it illegally collected from Americans anyway. This deliberate effort to withhold Americans’ hard-earned dollars is unacceptable. Why is the President standing in the way of refunds and real relief for American businesses and workers?

“The President’s chaotic tariff policies have raised prices for American families and small businesses at a time when they can least afford it. Rather than offering solutions to lower costs for families struggling to make ends meet, President Trump is deliberately deciding to make life harder for people and small businesses across the country. We must pass the Tariff Refund Act I introduced alongside Senators Wyden and Markey to end this nonsense and get hardworking Americans the money they are owed.”
