ICYMI: At National Security Innovation Forum, Shaheen Encourages Continued Bipartisan Approach to National Security in Next Congress

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, spoke at the National Security Innovation Forum (NSIF) with U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and U.S. Department of Defense Under Secretary Bill LaPlante, the Pentagon’s chief acquisition officer, last week about the importance of maintaining a bipartisan approach to national security goals and challenges in the 119th Congress and beyond. Shaheen also underscored the need to pass a responsible, timely budget each year that gives certainty to defense businesses in New Hampshire and across the country to solve workforce challenges and enhance national preparedness.

“One of the most important things for us to do right now is be very clear that national security is a bipartisan issue,” said Shaheen. “What we want to do is reassure the national security complex in this country—as well as our allies and adversaries around the world—that we continue to have a bipartisan approach to protecting this country and meeting our national security goals.”

The second National Security Innovation Forum, hosted by the Pallas Foundation at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center, convened leading government and industry figures to shape the future of defense innovation and emphasize the importance of working across government and industry to ensure continuity and progress in national security strategy.

Shaheen is a top member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees. Last week, Shaheen and U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-ID), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, led the annual bipartisan Congressional delegation to participate in the 16th annual Halifax International Security Forum to discuss strategic cooperation on shared global security goals with hundreds of national security leaders from across the world.
