ICYMI: Shaheen Discusses Trump’s First 100 Days, Tariffs Driving Price Increases and Social Security Cuts on Mike Pomp’s “Morning Information Center”

(Washington, DC) – This morning, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) joined “Morning Information Center” host Mike Pomp on The Pulse of New Hampshire to discuss how—from the trade war that has raised prices on businesses and families, to threats to Medicaid that Granite Staters rely on, to the slashing of domestic and global programs that keep Americans safe and healthy—President Trump’s first one hundred days in office has created uncertainty for communities across the country.

Key quotes from Senator Shaheen:

  • “You know, I think people elected President Trump because he said he was going to lower prices, he was going to address housing costs and food costs and energy costs, and unfortunately, he's not done any of that in his first 100 days. What he's done is embark on a tariff war that is really having significant impacts on businesses across New Hampshire.” Listen to the clip HERE.
  • “When we're cutting thousands of people from the Social Security Administration or closing regional offices, it's hard to see how people are going to be able to get the services that not only they depend on, but that they've paid for, because we've all paid, all of us who've worked have paid for that Social Security.” Listen to the clip HERE.
  • “I have taken over as the top Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, and I've looked at what's happened just with our foreign assistance programs, and those chainsaw cuts to foreign assistance have not only put United States at risk, but they've been wasteful. [...] So I think we all want to make government work as efficiently and effectively as possible, but what has happened today does not do that.” Listen to the clip HERE.

Senator Shaheen is helping lead efforts in Congress to mitigate the harmful impacts of President Trump's tariffs. In a letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth last month, Shaheen raised concerns about how the President’s trade war harms defense supply chains and ultimately weakens America’s military readiness. Shaheen also took to the Senate floor to highlight the devastating impacts that President Trump’s tariffs and trade war will have on American families and the economy. In January, Shaheen introduced the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes on Imported Goods Act which would limit the president’s ability to leverage sweeping tariffs that increase costs for American consumers and families. Her effort to pass this bill by unanimous consent was blocked by Senate Republicans. In recent months, Shaheen has traveled across the Granite State to visit businesses including Chatila’s Bakery, C&J, DCI Furniture, Mount Cabot Maple, American Calan Inc. and NH Ball Bearings to hear directly from Granite Staters impacted by the administration’s tariffs.
