SHAHEEN CONTINUES FIGHT TO OPEN BERLIN PRISON

In a speech today on the Senate floor, Senator Shaheen stressed the need for federal funding to open the Berlin prison in New Hampshire. The completed prison has sat vacant since its completion last year because of budget cuts. In the meantime, maintaining the empty prison is costing the government $4 million per year.

The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies recently approved a funding bill that would prioritize funding for prisons that have been completed but are awaiting funding to open, like Berlin. To read more, please visit http://1.usa.gov/nWehlt.
