(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement after deadly mass shootings in both El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio:
"Tragically, El Paso and Dayton join the many communities across the country that have been devastated and traumatized by a mass shooting. My thoughts today are with the families of all those senselessly taken, those recovering from injuries, and the law enforcement and medical staff who continue to respond.
"Words will not stop these acts of terrorism. There should be an aggressive federal response that includes rigorous and universal background checks on gun purchases and an assault weapons ban. It doesn’t have to be this way and we must not accept this as normal. We owe it to every victim of gun violence."
