(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) today released the following statement announcing that she’ll continue her leadership as Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies:

“I’m proud to continue serving as Chair of the pivotal Commerce, Justice, Science Subcommittee that oversees funding for key priorities in New Hampshire. From responding to the substance use disorder crisis to helping survivors of sexual and domestic violence to supporting science and innovation, I’ve seen the impacts of investments that I’ve worked to secure for our communities. As Chair, I’ll continue to ensure Congress is focused on addressing these pressing crises and investing in our economic growth,” said Shaheen. “I look forward to working with Republicans and Democrats on this committee to deliver necessary investments to ensure our communities have the tools they need to stay resilient and grow.”

As Chair of the powerful Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, Shaheen writes the funding legislation that delivers resources to key federal programs and agencies, including the Department of Justice and the Department of Commerce, which oversee the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Economic Development Administration (EDA), the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and more, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Shaheen also announced that she will continue to serve as Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation, through which she leads action around supporting Ukraine amid Putin’s war, combatting Russian aggression throughout the region and strengthening the transatlantic alliance, among other priorities:

“As global challenges continue to arise and evolve, I’m honored to carry on the responsibility of leading this pivotal subcommittee, which shapes U.S. foreign policy on issues ranging from U.S. policy toward Russia’s war in Ukraine to strengthening the transatlantic alliance and bolstering pro-democracy movements. Democracies across the globe are in danger amid a rise in authoritarianism, and U.S. leadership will help determine the trajectory of history. As Chair of this Subcommittee, I’ll continue to prioritize working with our allies and finding bipartisan consensus to respond to global threats, safeguard our national security and advance diplomacy abroad.”
