Shaheen Discusses How Trump’s Policies are Increasing Costs for Granite Staters with Visit to Brueckner Group USA, Roundtable with New Hampshire Hospital Leaders

(Manchester, NH) – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) visited Brueckner Group USA in Dover and led a roundtable discussion with hospital leaders at Dartmouth Health Manchester Clinic to highlight how the Trump administration’s policies are making the cost of living crisis worse for Granite Staters. In Dover, Shaheen visited Brueckner Group USA—a global manufacturing business in Dover—to tour their facility and discuss the ongoing harmful impacts of President Trump’s global trade war. The Trump administration has made more than 60 different tariff announcements already this term leading to supply chain disruptions, increased costs of goods and materials, smaller profits and higher costs for consumers.

“Trump’s tariffs are not only raising costs for families but also threatening businesses that provide good-paying jobs in our communities,” said Senator Shaheen. “Brueckner is one of the many businesses that have been impacted by the administration’s tariff chaos and are finding it difficult to plan for the future. What Granite State businesses need right now is certainty, not onerous tariff taxes based on nothing but the whim of the President.”

Senator Shaheen is helping lead efforts in Congress to mitigate the harmful impacts of President Trump's tariffs. Recently, Shaheen helped introduce bipartisan legislation, Creating Access to Necessary American-Canadian Duty Adjustments (CANADA) Act, that would exempt United States-owned small businesses from the sweeping tariffs imposed on Canadian products.

Shaheen has traveled across the Granite State to discuss the impact of tariffs on New Hampshire’s tourism industry and to visit businesses impacted by President Trump’s trade war including Colby Footwear, Chatila’s Bakery, C&J, DCI Furniture, Mount Cabot Maple, American Calan Inc. and NH Ball Bearings.

Later, Shaheen visited the Dartmouth Health Manchester Clinic for a roundtable discussion with Granite State hospital leaders on the impacts of Republican-backed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. Under the “Big Beautiful Betrayal” that was recently signed into law by President Trump, health care costs are expected to skyrocket while 15 million Americans are expected to lose health care coverage—including more than 46,000 Granite Staters.

“Even before the President signed the ‘Big Beautiful Betrayal’ into law, many of the Granite State’s hospitals and health care centers were struggling. Now, the situation is dire,” said Senator Shaheen. “I heard firsthand from hospital leaders who told me: without federal funding, it’s going to be incredibly difficult to provide health care in their communities.”

The conversation was a continuation of Shaheen’s “Medicaid Impact Tour,” a series of discussions across the Granite State to highlight the damage that Republican-led cuts to Medicaid are having on New Hampshire's health care system and working families, including by raising the cost of health care and leaving thousands uninsured.
