Shaheen Encourages Granite Staters to Participate in Drug Take Back Day

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement ahead of Drug Take Back Day, a national event hosted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). There are drop off locations across New Hampshire for Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 23rd, where the public can drop off old and unused prescription drugs to safely dispose them. Individuals can find the nearest drop off location on the DEA’s website.

“Tomorrow is a reminder that we can all play an important role in combating the substance use disorder epidemic, which has gotten worse because of the COVID-19 crisis,” said Shaheen. “By cleaning out old and unwanted drugs from household cabinets, we can stop drugs from reaching the wrong hands and continuing the cycles of addiction. We know that the majority of people who misuse prescription medications get ahold of them from family and friends – that’s why disposing of drugs responsibly is so important. I hope Granite Staters across New Hampshire come together this weekend to get these medications out of homes to protect our families, friends and community.”
