SHAHEEN HONORS EXECUTIVE COUNCILOR RAY BURTON AT DEDICATION OF NEW MT. WASHINGTON SCENIC OVERLOOK

(Bretton Woods, NH) U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) joined a bipartisan group of current and former Granite State officials in honoring Executive Councilor Ray Burton’s years of service to New Hampshire and North Country residents during a dedication ceremony at the new Mount Washington Scenic Overlook.

Senator Shaheen’s remarks as prepared for delivery are below:

It is a real pleasure to be here today to join all of you in honoring Ray Burton, a public servant who has given so much to the people of the North Country.

It’s not uncommon for people to joke about how many events Ray attends every week.

It’s Ray’s Rule #1. You have to show up. I know it’s truly a thrill for all of us to see you here today, Ray.

This beautiful spot looks out on one of the most stunning vistas in all of New Hampshire. I want to thank Steve Rice, Commissioner Clement, Joel Maiola, and everyone else who shared in the inspiration to dedicate this overlook to Ray Burton.

There can be no doubt that Ray loves the work he does.  He cares deeply about the needs of the downtrodden and always tries to give them help and hope.

Ray also loves everything about trains, planes, airports, bridges, and anything to do with transportation.

But more than anything else, Ray loves the North Country.

When I was governor, I saw first-hand what an incredible advocate Ray is for the North Country.  With a twinkle in his eyes, Ray was always looking to make a deal to get something for the North Country.

It has been an honor to work with Ray Burton, and to call him a friend.
