Shaheen Meets with Supreme Court Nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

Senator Shaheen meets with Judge Jackson in Washington, DC earlier today.

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after meeting with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court:

“Today, I had the privilege to meet with Judge Jackson, and like many Americans who had the opportunity to watch her confirmation hearings last week, was immensely impressed by her brilliance and the exceptional scope of her experience. I also join in the excitement of the historic nature of her nomination,” said Shaheen. “Her decade of judicial experience, coupled with her background as a public defender have served her well and informed a unique perspective on criminal law matters. With robust support from the law enforcement community, civil rights and business organizations, advocates for domestic violence survivors, and accolades from the American Bar Association, it is clear that Judge Jackson is eminently qualified to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. I look forward to voting in support of her nomination and celebrating the groundbreaking achievement of confirming the first Black woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. I can only imagine the joy and triumph that Black women and girls will feel to see themselves represented on the highest court in the land for the first time in our nation’s 245 year history. Our government should reflect the population it serves and Judge Jackson’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court is a critical step forward to uphold that standard.”
