Shaheen Statement Following Vote to Require Congressional Approval For Any New Military Action Against Iran

SHAHEEN: “War with Iran is not in America’s interest”

(Washington, DC)—U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement after voting on legislation that requires the Trump administration to seek congressional approval for military action against Iran:

“War with Iran is not in America’s interest which is why I voted today to require the Trump administration to come to Congress before taking any new military action,” said Shaheen. “The American people should have a say on matters of war, which is why I’m disappointed that we couldn’t advance this important legislation. The President, his advisors, and the Iranian regime, shouldn’t stumble down this dangerous escalatory path to conflict. Now’s the time for the Trump administration to fully embrace diplomacy and to get back on the same page as our allies in order to address Iran’s malign influence in the region.”
