Shaheen Statement on Bipartisan House Vote to Extend ACA Tax Credits

(Washinton, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), author of bicameral legislation to permanently extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits, released the following statement following a successful bipartisan vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on a discharge petition that would extend the recently expired ACA enhanced premium tax credits for three years:

“Today’s vote in the House represents an important step towards lowering the cost of health care for tens of millions of Americans. It also signals a growing bipartisan willingness to find a solution to extend the ACA tax credits that could earn broad bipartisan support in both chambers of Congress. This vote, coupled with recent comments from the President urging flexibility from Republicans, is welcome progress, especially as positive bipartisan conversations accelerate in the Senate.

“As we enter the new year, rising costs will continue to be top of mind for families everywhere, and Americans are looking to Congress to take tangible actions to help ease the affordability crisis. Restoring the ACA tax credits remains one of the best ways that we can do that.”
