SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON LAPSE OF AUTHORIZATION FOR FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION

July 22, 2011

(Washington, DC) – (U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the below announcement following the failure to extend the authorization of the Federal Aviation Administration:

"At a time when job creation must be our top priority, it is unfathomable that some members of Congress have blocked an extension of the authorization for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a move that could cause the government to lose approximately $200 million a week and nearly 4,000 hard-working Americans to be immediately furloughed without pay. I call on my colleagues to stop playing politics and putting our economy at risk and urge them to pass a long term reauthorization of FAA."
