SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON SENATE VOTE TO EXTEND UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after the Senate failed to clear a procedural hurdle to extend emergency unemployment insurance by a vote of 58-40:

“Too many people are out of work right now, through no fault of their own, and failing to extend this critical lifeline hurts their ability to make ends meet, provide for their families, and put food on the table.  I will continue to fight to extend these benefits because our economy and Granite State families cannot afford the economic consequences of further inaction.”

Shaheen spoke on the Senate floor earlier today in support of extending emergency unemployment insurance.
