SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON THE EXTENSION OF THE CASH FOR CLUNKERS PROGRAM

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen today released the following statement on the Senate's approval of an additional $2 billion for the Cash for Clunkers program:

"Today, the Senate acted quickly and appropriately to extend Cash for Clunkers. In the two weeks since the program has been announced, people have been able to trade in their older cars for ones that are more fuel efficient and will offer savings over time; car dealers have had customers in their showrooms for the first time in months and have been able to improve lagging sales; and American manufacturers will benefit from increased demand. These are the types of programs we need to reinvigorate the economy, and help families and businesses get back on their feet."
