Shaheen Statement One Year into President Trump’s Second Term

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement marking one year since President Trump was sworn into his second term:

“Time and again throughout the last year, President Trump has shown America whose side he is on—and it isn’t the working American families he campaigned on championing. His backwards economic agenda has worsened the affordability crisis by cutting families’ health care and food assistance to finance tax breaks for billionaires, all while Granite Staters are confronting higher utility bills and rising prices at the grocery store, the pharmacy and the child care center.

“My constituents are rightly questioning why, when we face such devastating economic challenges at home, the President appears to be focused on everything but putting America first. It hurts America’s security and prosperity when the President intimidates long-standing partners in NATO for no reason and slashes USAID programs that protect the health of Americans and expand economic opportunity for the U.S. while targeting allies like Canada through a reckless, haphazard trade war that has taxed American families and businesses.

“One year in, this President’s agenda has resulted in increased costs at home and alliances frayed abroad—and America is weaker because of it. In my final year in office, I’m committed to holding the President accountable and highlighting the damages this Administration has caused while working to deliver lasting solutions for New Hampshire.”
