SHAHEEN URGES SENATE TO TAKE ACTION ON COMPREHENSIVE CLEAN ENERGY LEGISLATION IN 2010

(Washington, D.C.)-U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Energy and Natural Resources Committees, today released the following statement on the agreement reached at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen:

"It is clear that we must take action to slow climate change and that the international community must join together to confront this challenge. The progress made in Copenhagen toward reaching a global agreement on reducing greenhouse gases and monitoring emission reductions is an important step in this process. We must continue to work with our partners worldwide so that we can make meaningful progress and prevent the most catastrophic effects of climate change.

"I applaud President Obama and the nation's delegation for their leadership, and I urge my colleagues to continue to lead on this critical economic and national security issue by enacting comprehensive climate and energy legislation."
