WEDNESDAY: SHAHEEN, SNOWE HOLD SENATE SMALL BUSINESS COMMITTEE HEARINGS IN PORTSMOUTH, PORTLAND

Senators to hear testimony from New Hampshire and Maine small business owners on economic issues

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME), as members of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, will host two official field hearings on Wednesday, August 12. Entitled "Small Business Survival, Weathering the Economy, Creating Jobs, and What the SBA Can Do to Assist," the hearings will include testimony from Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Karen Gordon Mills and local business owners.

"Small businesses are the backbone of New Hampshire's economy," said Shaheen. "These hearings are an opportunity to hear from business owners that are trying to weather the economic downturn, and have an open discussion on what they need to sustain and, hopefully, grow their businesses."

The Senators will hold two official field hearings of the Senate Small Business Committee on Wednesday, the first in Portland, ME at 9:00 a.m., followed by a hearing in Portsmouth, NH at 1:30 p.m.  In Portsmouth, SBA Administrator Mills will testify on the first panel. The second panel will include testimony from New Hampshire business leaders Aaron Bagshaw, President, W.H. Bagshaw, Inc.; Julie Gustafson, President and CEO, Amoskeag Business Incubator; Scott Logan, Owner, Blue Mermaid Island Grill; Joseph Reilly, President and CEO, Centrix Bank; and Dawn Wivel, Director, N.H. Office of International Commerce.
