Shaheen Statement on Secretary Raimondo’s Trip to People’s Republic of China

(Washington, DC) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement in response to U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo’s trip to the People’s Republic of China, which follows President Biden’s directive to deepen bilateral relations between the two nations:

“Secretary Raimondo’s visit is a clear indication of the pragmatic approach the United States is taking to enhance communication with the People’s Republic of China. This trip will help to ensure the United States protects our national security interests while finding avenues to do business with China and create jobs for Americans,” said Shaheen. “The United States and the People’s Republic of China share one of the largest and most consequential trade partnerships in the world, and we must continue to ensure open lines of communication to manage that relationship responsibly, even if we don’t always see eye to eye. Secretary Raimondo is taking positive, concrete steps to deliver on that goal, and I am grateful to her for this vital work.”
