SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON SENATE BUDGET VOTE

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement this afternoon after the Senate cleared a bipartisan budget deal by a vote of 64-36:

“The budget deal represents a small but important step forward for our government and our economy.  Though it wasn’t the deal I would have crafted, I supported the budget because it represents the kind of compromise we need more of here in Washington.  The bipartisan agreement will help create certainty for small businesses, promote job creation and avoid a government shutdown – all of which our economy needs right now.”

Yesterday, Senator Shaheen also introduced the Military Retirement Restoration Act which would undo a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for military retirees currently in the budget and replace those savings by closing offshore tax loopholes. This afternoon Shaheen discussed her legislation and the importance of passing the bipartisan budget agreement on the Senate floor.
