SHAHEEN ANNOUNCES $1 MILLION FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF HEALTH INSURANCE EXCHANGE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen today announced that New Hampshire will receive $1,000,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to begin preparing for the establishment of a health insurance exchange.  Exchanges, created by the federal Affordable Care Act, are meant to be one-stop shopping where people can purchase health insurance coverage. They're scheduled to be in place in 2014.

"For too long, purchasing health care has been both unnecessarily complicated and costly," said Shaheen.  "The creation of a health insurance exchange will allow the people of New Hampshire to compare different plans' benefits, pricing, and quality.  This grant will help finance the research and planning needed to build a successful exchange in New Hampshire."
