Shaheen Continues “Invest In New Hampshire Tour” with Nursing School and Supportive Housing Ribbon Cuttings
(Concord, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, continued her “Invest in NH” tour with ribbon-cuttings at Saint Anselm College’s new nursing school building and a new supportive housing development in Concord. Shaheen helped secure federal funding for both projects through the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) process. The “Invest in NH” tour highlights the important funding opportunities Shaheen has secured for New Hampshire to help lower costs and ensure Granite Staters have the federal resources they need and deserve. In Manchester, Shaheen delivered remarks at the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Saint Anselm College Jean School of Nursing and Health Sciences building. Shaheen secured $2.5 million in CDS for a new simulation lab which will help educators train the next generation of Granite State nurses and health care professionals.
“I was glad to continue my “Invest in NH” tour today at Saint Anselm College to highlight some of the CDS that I’ve secured—it’s really important to helping small states like New Hampshire get our fair share of federal resources,” said Senator Shaheen. “As our state continues to face a shortage of health care professionals, training grounds like Saint Anselm College’s new nursing center are all the more important to getting more professionals into the field so that Granite Staters can get the care they need.”
Senator Shaheen has spearheaded numerous efforts in the Senate in support of New Hampshire’s health care workforce. During negotiations surrounding the American Rescue Plan Act, Shaheen helped steer efforts to increase funding for the Provider Relief Fund (PRF) to ensure hospitals, nursing homes and other health care providers on the frontlines had the support they needed to keep their doors open and continue to care for patients. As a senior member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, Shaheen secured $17,419,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending in the FY 2024 government funding legislation to support health care and education needs in the Granite State.
Later, in Concord, Shaheen joined the Concord Coalition to End Homelessness (CCEH) and delivered remarks at the ribbon cutting ceremony for its new South State Street residences. Shaheen secured $1,000,000 in CDS for the project which will house at least nine individuals exiting homelessness.
“As the cost of living soars nation-wide, it’s critical that we do more to address housing affordability and help house the many Granite Staters who are being priced out of the market,” said Senator Shaheen. “That’s why I worked with the Concord Coalition to End Homelessness to secure federal funding for its supportive housing project. I was glad to join them today to open this new site that will help house the folks who need it most.”
Shaheen has continually worked to ensure communities have the federal funding needed to tackle the housing affordability crisis. Recently, three of her commonsense bills to address the high cost of housing and increase the supply of affordable housing units in the Granite State and across the country passed through the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs—the Strategy and Investment in Rural Housing Preservation Act, the Streamlining Rural Housing Act and the Preservation and Reinvestment Initiative in Community Enhancement (PRICE) Act. In the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations bill, Shaheen fought to fully fund the Rental Assistance program so that participating families can remain housed, provides funding to preserve the existing affordable housing portfolio and makes $1 billion in financing available for very low-income homebuyers, many of whom are first-time homeowners. In the FY24 Ag-FDA bill, two Shaheen-led provisions were signed into law to help to preserve existing rural housing, build new housing in rural areas and protect low-income renters in rural areas from losing their homes.
