Shaheen Statement on Reports of White House Health Care Proposal
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the original author of bicameral legislation that would permanently extend the Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits, released the following statement on reports of a White House health care framework:
“As I have said time and again, it is critical that the enhanced premium tax credits – which I’ve championed for nearly five years – are extended to ensure Americans can afford their health care. I'm glad the President is reportedly considering a serious proposal to begin negotiations to prevent health insurance premiums from soaring for tens of millions of Americans in a matter of weeks.
“I’ve had constructive conversations with many of my Republican colleagues who I believe want to get this done. They understand that the vast majority of people who benefit from these tax credits live in states the President won, and that the President’s own pollsters have underscored the enormous political urgency of Republicans acting.
“If the reports are true and the President is considering coming to the table in good faith, I believe we can find a path forward that can earn broad bipartisan support in Congress.”
