Ahead of Small Business Saturday, Shaheen Visits Granite State Small Businesses in Contoocook

(Contoocook, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the U.S. Senate Small Business Committee and a former Chair of the Committee, joined U.S. Small Business Administration New Hampshire District Director Amy Bassett and former New Hampshire Governor John Lynch for a walking tour of downtown small businesses ahead of Small Business Saturday on November 29th. The group made stops at Gould Hill Farm & Contoocook Cider Co., Witching Hour Coffee & Provisions, Indigo Blues and Der Markt at Marklin. Photos from today’s small business walk can be found HERE.

“It was great to be in downtown Contoocook visiting a number of small businesses ahead of Small Business Saturday and to highlight the role Main Street plays in our communities by creating jobs, supporting the economy and enriching our neighborhoods,” said Senator Shaheen. “I continue to hear from small businesses that the President’s policies are making it harder instead of easier to make ends meet. I’m going to keep pushing back in Washington - whether it’s by advocating for an extension of the Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits that disproportionately benefit small businesses and their employees or by calling out the harms of the administration’s tariffs taxes that make basic necessities more expensive for business owners and everyday customers alike.”

As the former Chair of the U.S. Senate Small Business Committee, Shaheen has championed efforts to support New Hampshire’s small businesses and entrepreneurs. That includes helping lead efforts in Congress to mitigate the harmful impacts of President Trump's tariffs on Main Street. In recent months, Shaheen has traveled across the Granite State to discuss the impact of tariffs on New Hampshire’s tourism industry and to visit businesses impacted by President Trump’s trade war including Brothers’ Cortado, Brueckner Group USA, Colby Footwear, Chatila’s Bakery, C&J, DCI Furniture, Mount Cabot Maple, American Calan Inc. and NH Ball Bearings. Earlier in the year, Shaheen helped introduce bipartisan legislation, Creating Access to Necessary American-Canadian Duty Adjustments (CANADA) Act, that would exempt United States-owned small businesses from the sweeping tariffs imposed on Canadian products.
